What this ritual is for
A mother's working, done by my hand, to cover your child from harm, envy and bad influence.
There is no fear like fear for a child. A new school, a custody fight, a sickness that will not clear, a friend you do not trust, or simply the world. This working puts a cover over your child that goes with them wherever they are.
I work it the way my grandmother worked it for the mothers of Luxor: the child's name wrapped in white cloth with chamomile and rue, a candle burned for their health and another for their safety, and a sealing spoken over the four directions they might travel. Where there is a specific threat, I name it and turn it away.
