A blessing for the hope of a child, or for a child already on the way, worked over three nights.
Wanting a child and waiting for one is its own kind of ache, and carrying one is its own kind of fear. In my family the women were blessed for both, by hand, at the kitchen table. I perform that blessing here, in your name, over three nights.
I set a bowl of water with a pinch of honey and a seed, light a white candle for the hope and a pink one for the child, and write your name and your partner's on petition paper folded toward the womb. Each night I ask for openness, for safety, and for the road to be gentle.
This work sits beside your doctor and your midwife, never in their place, and I promise nothing about what a body will do. It is for the spirit of the matter: the waiting, the hoping, the carrying.
